the project itself

The County Hell Project was formed by ex-Rent Boy Mike Shina in December of 2001, who was looking for a means to producing a collection of songs written over the past two years. Although the songs had characteristics remaniscent of some Rent Boys' tunes, the approach was more subdued and organic, with a slightly slower tempo than the majority of Mike's earlier Rent Boys' compositions. He contacted Michael Griffeth, a local Atlanta musician who was presently playing drums in a band known as Slot Racer, to engineer and produce the songs. Both Mikes worked together on Saturday afternoons at MG's house in Cabbagetown with high hopes and cases of Bud at recording the basic acoustic guitar and drum tracks. Once the foundation was laid it was time to bring in local musicians both the two had previously collaborated with and/or been intrigued by. Needless to say, their efforts recieved a very positive response, and as the songs began to grow and the tracks began to become full on the tape machine they realized they had produced something that exceeded their original expectations. Once the songs were finished musically, they traveled to the "West Side" to Red Laboratory Studio to mix and master the songs. With the help of Red Lab's owner and manager Edward Rawls, The County Hell Project became a reality.

On behalf of all the musicians, The County Hell Project would like to thank our families (immediate and extended), and all of our friends for their belief and support in the music we are proud to present you with. . .much love. -CHP
