So I’ll be honest right from the beginning. I've been sitting on this for over a month and just haven’t been sure what to say, because right from the moment I first saw Angine De Poitrine, I was basically speechless. From the first time I heard their stand out track ‘Sherpa’ I was confused, conflicted and uncertain as to what I’d just experienced. But I knew I wanted to find out more and that's when I realised that it’s not even necessarily new, as this track was part of a debut 2024 album release.
It’s mad to the think that this French Canadian duo, who’ve only been active as this particular outfit since 2023, dressed in polka dots, papier-mache heads and comedically sized noses have created a sound so unique and a presence so bold that you just can’t ignore them, and for something so psychedelically obscure a presentation that’s just outright weird.. it’s all so incredibly real. There’s no AI here, no processed beats or straight to Tik Tok viral nonsense of the week. It’s actually just two basically anonymous musicians, that are both as accomplished as each-other, producing exciting experimental rock music.
‘Sherpa’, a lot like the rest of their catalogue so far, is mostly instrumental and finds the duo spend almost six minutes looping guitar, layering bass and lead with the use of a double neck guitar, and thrashing drum beats in the most inexplicable fashion with such an inconvenient outfit. But it’s the excitement of the build as the fast paced instrumental grows in energy and the aesthetic becomes secondary to the masterful proficiency that both musicians show. Angine De Poitrine are no doubt going to create a huge name for themselves as more and more people fall in love with something they don’t fully understand, but they want to be involved in, and if they continue to release music similar to that of the opening track on their 2024, Vol.1 LP, then they’re surely getting ready to take over the world…

We’ve got little over a month until the release of Vol.2 so we’ll soon find out what else is to come from them as they set their sights on becoming your new obsession, a bit like how they’ve become mine.
