HAWK THIEF / EXISTENCE IS EVERYTHING

Anybody who is familiar with or who has ever followed Back to Mono Records knows, that we love music. We love to champion music and spread awareness of great music. What is even more gratifying is when we champion new music, by great friends, with local connections.

Hawk Thief is led on vocals and guitar by York native Sid Wilson. Despite his Yorkshire roots, he was a Lincoln resident for some time and became closely affiliated with The Mojo20 and Back to Mono collectives, and was found featuring regularly at our cyclical club nights. However, away from the dance floor, Sid is a master musician and under different guises such as Interstellar or even his own name for various solo efforts, he's consistently written and recorded great music. With an unmatched ear for production, every element of the creative process is engineered to a very meticulous level, and the results speak for themselves on every occasion.

In 2021, a brand new, independent musical project was born into existence, and while branded as 'Music for the soul', it immediately resonates as music from the heart. Hawk Thief is Sid's latest incarnation and his brand new album, due for release on April 11th, named 'Existence is Everything' may very easily be his greatest works to date. This 11 track opus, sounds like it was stolen from Richard Ashcroft's studio floor and repurposed as an impactful debut, rather than a return to form. The albums composition appears to be intelligently laid out to continually impress with the reveal of each new track and while the lyrics are poetic and insightful, the delivery is heartfelt, raw and forceful. It features samples and sounds throughout that embody the natural and real essence of the entire project.

The album has already received exposure and praise on BBC Radio York and BBC Introducing as well as being visible on BBC Sounds for the playback of stand out track 'Silver Birch'. The album is due to be available on all streaming platforms and it is not only advisable that you go and listen, but if you are a fan of brilliant, British, hand crafted, real music that evokes emotion and draws visible imagery with every note, then it's mandatory. There's also a large chance that the vinyl will be available for purchase from Back to Mono record store in Lincoln, and I've already made Sid abundantly aware that I want a personal copy, as let's face it, on the turntable is the only way to hear music like this.
