PUBLIC FIGURES / FIGURE IT OUT

Fashionably late to the party as usual, it took until almost the end of May, for us to discover the modern genius of the mid February debut EP release from Public Figures.
If you haven't come across this punk rock four piece yet, do yourself a favour and get stuck in. Their sound makes their origins immediately obvious, as other bands like Romero, Amyl & The Sniffers & The Chats sprang to mind without hesitation. They're fun, uncompromising, raw and energetic but without the stereotypical punk aesthetic, carving their own path and forming their own identity from the very beginning.

The EP is a more than accessible 13 minutes of feral riffs, intelligent lyrics, catchy hooks and personality, with a sound that weaves constantly and expresses a broad range and variety of different approaches. It really doesn't need too much dissecting, it's great fun and it'll be a soundtrack to the summer for us at Back to Mono.
Opening track Cut it Out opens with a charged up riff as powerful as anything I've heard in years, before introducing us to lead singer Evie Valah, who looks damn near set to take over the world as the possible, next great frontwoman in rock music. The whole ensemble is locked in and dynamically crafted, from Gigi Argiro's drums and harmonising backing vocals, being complimented by a driving bassline and fuzzy guitar riffs throughout the majority of the EP. But the most impressive thing about the record is how it flips from frantic modern punk, to rock n roll that appears to be designed for driving in the sunshine, in an effortless and spontaneous sweep, before calming right down for final track How I'm Feeling.
If this is just the debut EP, I cant wait to see what they can do with a full LP of tracks. I suggest you follow our advice and inject some raw power into your summer, with Public Figures.
