Previously, we published an interview with one of Lincoln’s hottest prospects when it comes to local new music, and although Rhys Turner is already established as the frontman for the subjects of that particular piece, The Faith Estate’s lead vocalist is not only taking over the Lincolnshire music scene with his band but also with his solo work.

As he continues to seamlessly jump back and forth between projects, producing completely different sounds and styles for both and displaying wonderful versatility and an IQ for music far ahead of his years, here, we focus here on his latest single release from his solo works, and it comes in the form of ‘The Mistress (Of Mystery). With a release date of the 1st of August 2026, this magnetic, acoustic feel that Rhys manages to create, feels as much fun as it is beautiful. I listen to it trying to pinpoint who it reminds me of, and don’t get me wrong, whilst names like Stephen Fretwell, Badly Drawn Boy, Bright Eyes and The Coral do jump to mind, it really is a unique and fresh new approach that frankly sounds like… Rhys Turner. The track mainly features summery, jangling guitar licks and a steady snare driven beat acting as a fabulous canvas for the lyrical and vocal talent which really sets Rhys Turner apart from other artists of his ilk, and steals the show at any event I've seen him play at. It's a talent that stops you in your tracks and demands your attention.

‘The Mistress’ is a part of an upcoming EP release, and ‘Making Shapes in the dark’ is set to follow up the single release, when it drops on the 5th of September. The EP looks to be an incredible piece of work in its own right, but with such a strong introduction as this initial single has provided us, I personally can’t wait for the fully formed EP and will continue to keep eyes on this incredible new talent, that’s certainly destined for great things.
